I have waited over 6 MONTHS to finally write you this email.
My wife and I picked up baking as a hobby back in March, so we’ve been searching, baking, and tasting dozens & dozens of African cakes…
And after many bites, puffs, and notes… I FINALLY ranked my top 3 (favorite) African cakes to pair with the Bongani Robusto.
So if you love to bake and eat cake while puffing on cigars, read through to the end!
Because I’m also sharing where my wife found each recipe.
So let’s start! Coming in at #1, my all-time favorite cake to pair with the Bongani Robusto…
The Moroccan Orange Blossom Cake
I have never tasted anything like this before!
This cake exudes a rich floral aroma, with hints of citrus and vanilla.
The first bite floods the buds with a sweet, citrusy taste – almost like a glazed donut. 🤤
This sweet and citrusy cake perfectly complements the rich, earthy, and creamy Bongani Robusto.
Then at #2, we have…
The South African Chocolate Malva Pudding
I know what you’re thinking, that looks more like a brownie than pudding.
I thought the same thing when I first saw it.
It’s actually a soft and fluffy chocolate cake on the outside, with a sweet and gooey apricot-flavored jam on the inside.
And if you pour some caramel sauce on top, or vanilla ice cream if you’re really craving sweets…
You will discover a new sweet addiction – yes, it tastes that good!
The Bongani’s milk chocolatey hints PERFECTLY complement the Malva’s rich chocolate taste.
Now at #3, we have…

Ethiopian Injera and Coffee Crêpe Cake
If you love Crêpes, you will LOVE this sweet and tangy cake.
While it may have coffee in its name, it’s not bitter by any means – but it does smell like coffee.
Once you take a bite, you’ll find the perfect fusion between a sweet and (light) sour taste.
This is a thin, delicate cake – which has a spongy and slightly chewy texture.
While it’s not as sweet as the other two, it’s still a great pairing if you don’t want to overload your system with sweets.
It especially pairs well with the Bongani Robusto.
Pair the rich, earthy, and spicy Robusto with the sweet, tangy, and slightly sour cake to get an unexpectedly satisfying experience.
That’s it in the meantime.
Please let me know which cake you plan on trying.
