Clean leaves are then stacked on pallets (in massive quantities) – these stacks are called pilons.
These pilons weigh about 2500 lbs on average.
And they leverage the intense pressure, regulated moisture, and heat to ferment.
During this phase, all remaining nutrients and ammonia are purged.
Leaving you with smooth, clean tobacco.
The fermentation process takes 9 months.
During this phase, the tobacco leaves are flipped every 7 to 10 days to prevent spontaneous combustion.
